Tears of the Kingdom has finally been released worldwide and fans are excited for this highly anticipated sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. In this new game, players will embark on an epic adventure through the vast lands and skies of Hyrule. Just like its predecessor, the world of Hyrule is immense but now it’s even larger and offers various new ways to explore.

Tears of the Kingdom introduces some fresh gameplay mechanics like weapon fusion and object manipulation which play a significant role in combat and exploration. Although the theme of the game is similar to Breath of the Wild, there are several noteworthy changes you should be aware of. Hyrule Changes and Sky Islands

Tears of the Kingdom takes place in the same Hyrule as Breath of the Wild but after the events of the first game. This means that players will notice some changes such as the appearance of Sky Islands floating above the surface. The game starts on these Sky Islands and it seems like skydiving will be a common activity.

New Beasts

Similar to the Divine Beasts in Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom introduces massive creatures. Trailers have shown scenes with Link and a new Rito character encountering a massive centipede-like monster emerging from beneath them. These creatures might be new beasts or new boss encounters that Link must face adding new challenges and puzzles to the game’s world.

New Bosses

While the Stone Talus makes a return in Tears of the Kingdom as a separate boss encounter, the trailers have also teased other massive enemies that could be bosses. For example, there is a large construct made of blocks, an even larger mech-like construct and a massive three-headed hydra-like boss with fire. It remains to be seen if these are entirely new bosses or just variations of existing enemies. The inclusion of these new bosses suggests the possibility of encountering new dungeons and how they will fit into the game’s world.

Skyview Towers and Chica Towers

In Breath of the Wild, Chica Towers presented platforming challenges and unlocked regions of the map. Tears of the Kingdom introduces a similar concept with Skyview Towers which seem to serve the same purpose. Recent previews have showcased a Skyview Tower with an elevator that takes players to the top.

Caves and Chasms

Tears of the Kingdom introduces new areas in Hyrule including caves and chasms. These locations are shrouded in mystery and while we don’t have much information about them yet, they are likely to hold secrets and pose threats for players to explore and conquer.

Monster Forts

Building on the concept of monster camps from Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom enhances it with upgraded Bokoblin camps. A trailer shows a Bokoblin camp with a device that fires lasers and spins offering a new challenge for Link. Bokoblins also construct bases on top of Stone Taluses, indicating more strategic encounters with enemies.

New Abilities in Tears of the Kingdom


One of the standout abilities showcased in Tears of the Kingdom is Recall. This power allows Link to rewind an object’s time, granting him the ability to manipulate time itself. A recall is unique among the other abilities as it has an actual Rune symbol and unique patterns around the centerpiece of the hand which emits a yellow glow from the back of the hand.


Fuse is another intriguing ability that Link possesses. It enables him to fuse weapons and materials together creating new varieties of weapons. This ability adds depth to the game’s crafting system and showcases the versatility of Link’s new powers.

Ultra Hand

The Ultra Hand ability gives Link the power to pick up objects and attach them to others which allows him to construct vehicles and other automated structures. This ability taps into Link’s resourcefulness and opens up new possibilities for exploration and puzzle-solving.


Link’s Ascend ability breaks the barriers of conventional movement by allowing him to pass through ceilings, regardless of their thickness. This ability opens up new avenues for vertical exploration and navigation allowing players to explore previously inaccessible areas.
